#10 Cinco Grande (Large Five) is exactly that, the longest par 5 on the course playing 570 from Extra
Hot to 424 from Mild. This double dog-leg hole is extremely difficult to reach in two for all
but the longest of big hitters. However, three good shots gives an excellent
chance for par or even a birdie
#11 Compasivo (Compassion) is an easy short par 3.
Realizing you have just conquered the corner of the lost, the designers
felt compassion towards the golfer and set this hole for pure enjoyment.
Straight with only one small side bunker, this hole will allow each golfer
to attack the green with their favorite shot.
#12 Cuatro con Largo (Four with Length) is a long par 4.
Played from Extra Hot this hole is 436 yards long and runs along an old
railroad spur. Home to the transcontinental railroad, this spur was built to serve the
industrial park south of town. A large wide open green is very receptive
to the long second shot needed to reach this green in regulation
#13 Supersticion (Superstition) is an easy dog leg to the left. This short par 4 is protected with mounding on the right side of the green
which extends to the front right corner. Drives hit to the right side of the fairway will leave a short approach
shot where only a portion of the flag may be seen. A undulating green is
a very "rollable" putting surface. Most golfers score on this hole, but some do not. We blame superstition
#14 Arenosa (Sandy) is an apt description for this short par 4. A fairway bunker in the exact center gives the golfer the choice of carry,
left, right, or short. Hitting this bunker leaves a very difficult 128
yard second shot. The green is well protected with three bunkers, two which are four or more
feet below the putting surface. Unless your bunker play is superior, it is best to avoid these two challenging bunkers.
#15 Agua Capturar (Captured Water) is a simple par 5 with a pond on the right from 100 yards out all the
way to and through the right side of the green. A wide open tee shot leaves a long shot to reach in two or a safe play
to reach in regulation. The water captures many a golf shot from the brave and the errant. This
two tier green holds several difficult putting positions.
#16 Dama Flaca (Skinny Lady) is an enjoyable par 3.
This raised green is very narrow front to back. The skinny landing surface challenges the golfer to hit a well struck tee
shot. Those missing this lady may find she is no lady after all.
#17 Exactamente Derecho (Exactly Straight) is the first of two easy par 4 closing holes. In the early 1900s, Pancho Villa and his
army raided the Village Columbus in
the southern part of Luna County. This exactly straight forward attack remains the only attack on continental
United States by a foreign military
force. With no fairway trouble and only one small green bunker, exactly straight
hole reminds us of the simple pleasure of striking the ball. A gentle sloping
two tier green gives away a lot of one putts.
# 18 Conquistador (Conqueror) is a wonderfully short par 4 finishing hole. With out of bounds to the right and trees to the left, this hole rewards
the well placed drive. This very small but highly receptive green gives the golfer the chance
to finish with the best score of the day and be a conquistador.
